Meditation

Although meditation has been a tradition practiced in many cultures around the world for thousands of years, it wasn’t until the 1970’s that the scientific community published a vast amount of research about meditation and its benefits. The results show a common discovery: the practice of meditation may have a positive impact on body and human mental health. The popularity of meditation has also increased throughout the recent years; it is so well-known, that medical, educational, and mental health institutes offer meditation training and recommend practicing it to support the well-being of the community.

The positive impact of meditating points out to several scientific proven benefits. For instance, meditation reduces stress, controls anxiety, promotes emotional health, enhances self-awareness, lengthens attention span, may reduce age-related memory loss, and more.

At Sunshine State Counseling Center, we believe that practicing meditation may provide individuals with a source of compassion not only for others but for themselves as well. Our teacher Andres E. Ariza is a Zen student with great charisma and sense of empathy. Classes are free and are offered in the office every Friday at 5:30 pm.
