Melissa Thompson received a master’s degree in Social Work from Colorado State University in 2002. She has focused her career on identifying the unique needs of each client and helping them to achieve their best quality of life. She brings a compassionate and empowering approach to supporting people through the challenges of life. Melissa has developed a deep understanding of the issues faced by her clients and their loved ones through her experiences working in health care and mental health settings. Her passion is working with children, teens, and adults to find their voice and to inspire the positive changes they wish to see in their lives. Melissa believes in the power of creativity, drawing upon art, music, and other expressive methods to help clients unlock their feelings.
Her warmth and humor make Melissa an engaging public speaker and educator. She is an adjunct faculty member at the Barry University School of Social Work and the Florida Gulf Coast University Department of Social Work. Melissa is certified as an Advanced Social Work Case Manager through the National Association of Social Workers and is licensed in Florida as a Registered Clinical Social Work Intern. She uses multiple therapeutic approaches to help individuals, couples, and families, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Expressive Therapies, and Play Therapy. Melissa specializes in addressing issues related to depression, anxiety, aging, trauma, LGBTQ issues, as well as grief and loss.
