Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about our therapy services. Can’t find what you’re looking for? We’re here to help.
What should I expect in my first therapy session?
Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know you and understand your concerns. We’ll discuss your reasons for seeking therapy, your history, and your goals. This is also a chance for you to ask questions and see if our approach feels comfortable for you. The session is confidential and designed to be a safe, supportive space.
How long does each therapy session last?
Individual therapy sessions typically last 50-60 minutes. Family sessions and couples sessions may run 60-90 minutes depending on your needs. We’ll discuss the appropriate session length during your initial consultation and adjust based on your treatment goals.
Do you accept insurance?
We work with many major insurance providers. Please contact our office with your insurance information, and we’ll verify your coverage and explain any out-of-pocket costs before your first appointment. We also offer self-pay options for those without insurance or who prefer not to use their benefits.
What is play therapy and how does it help children?
We work with many major insurance providers. Please contact our office with your insurance information, and we’ll verify your coverage and explain any out-of-pocket costs before your first appointment. We also offer self-pay options for those without insurance or who prefer not to use their benefits.
What is EMDR therapy and who can benefit from it?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy designed to help people heal from trauma and distressing life experiences. It uses bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, to help the brain process traumatic memories. EMDR is effective for PTSD, anxiety, depression, and other conditions rooted in traumatic experiences.
How can I prepare for my first appointment?
Simply bring yourself and an open mind. It can be helpful to jot down your main concerns or questions beforehand. If you have previous therapy records or relevant medical information, having those available can be useful. Most importantly, be honest about what you’re experiencing – there’s no judgment here, and your answers help us provide the best care.
Do you offer telehealth or online therapy sessions?
Yes, we offer secure online therapy sessions for individuals and families who prefer the convenience of virtual appointments or are unable to attend in-person sessions. Our telehealth platform is HIPAA-compliant and easy to use from your home or office. We can discuss whether online therapy is appropriate for your needs.
How long will I need to be in therapy?
The duration of therapy varies based on your individual needs and goals. Some people benefit from short-term therapy (6-12 sessions) to address specific concerns, while others prefer longer-term support for more complex issues. We’ll regularly review your progress together and adjust your treatment plan as needed. Your journey is unique to you.
Can family members attend therapy sessions?
Absolutely. Family involvement can be a valuable part of the healing process. With your consent, we may invite family members to join sessions when it’s beneficial to your treatment goals. Family therapy sessions are also available as a standalone service to address family dynamics, communication, and relationship challenges.
Is everything I share confidential?
Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of our practice. Everything you share in therapy is protected by law and will not be disclosed without your written consent. The only exceptions are situations involving immediate safety concerns, which we’ll explain fully during your first session. Your privacy and trust are our highest priorities.
