Back To School: Communicating With Your Child

Back to School Season

With kids going back to school this month, they will be experiencing lots of changes in their
lives. From navigating social dynamics with classmates, having new teachers, and adjusting to
new routines, the beginning of the school year presents a great deal of transition to get used to.
Children often may not know how to communicate what is going on during the school day to
their parents, or they may not even want to. But through consistent and compassionate
communication, you can have conversations with your child to ensure they are feeling
supported, seen, and heard.

What’s Next

Through showing patience and compassion to your child, they will be more likely to open up. If
you notice your child is struggling, or changes to their mood or demeanor, therapy can provide
them with a space for them to communicate about what they are going through. Schedule an
appointment at Sunshine State Counseling Center today by calling (239) 495-7722
